The Divine Liturgy in the Orthodox Church is the culmination, the crowning moment of the daily cycle of church services, for during it the great sacrament of the transubstantiation of bread and wine into the true Body and Blood of Christ is performed, and during communion the union of God and man. The rank and harmonious monastic chant prepares and attunes the soul to worthily receive this salvific sacrament. As a symbol of the work of the "all-performing" Holy Spirit, church singing is God-inspired and can touch the deepest feelings of the human soul. It communicates divine order, peace, and harmony.
