"The Fatherbook" by St. Ignatius (Bryanchaninov) is a collection of short stories about the great Fathers of the Church, hermits and monks. Ignatius Bryanchaninov compiled it using the texts of the Prologue and the Dobrotolubia, making translations of Greek and Latin works contained in Minya's multi-volume Patrology. This book turned out to be a treasury of the teachings of the ancient ascetics, where each word is the fruit of an ascetic experience deeply assimilated by the writer himself. "The Fatherbook" teaches intelligent attentive prayer, devotion to the Orthodox faith, and the fear of God, so necessary not only for monastics, but also for laymen. The saint was convinced that if one mastered the patristic heritage perfectly, then, "as one minded and one with the holy fathers, one would be saved.
